This #2 live centre can be used with the adjustable pen mandrels listed on our site (PEN#2MTA or PEN#1MTA) just remove the brass nut and reverse the mandrel shaft in the collet chuck sliding it into the morse taper housing. By doing this you won’t be able to damage the thread if it’s required for another job. Once you have installed the pen mandrel in the headstock and the live centre in the tailstock slide on your pen blank bring up the live centre, lock the tailstock and apply a moderate amount of pressure, just enough for the pressure to drive the blank and begin turning. If the blank spins just add a little pressure, over tightening can cause problems with the blank and even problems with the mandrel shaft. When turning is complete remove the tailstock and centre, slide off the blank.
